Mute
A weekly digital break that follows the sun
Updated September 17, 2026
Antitoxic Time is Mute’s weekly pause from digital noise. It begins before sunset on Friday and finishes after nightfall on Saturday, using the location you choose. The times adjust through the year as the sun’s schedule changes.
Choose your location
Open Rhythm → Antitoxic Time and choose a city. You can optionally use Use current location instead. Location permission is not required when you choose a city. Mute calculates sunset and nightfall on your iPhone; it does not upload your coordinates.
Review the start and end times
Adjust how many minutes before Friday sunset the pause should begin. Saturday’s end uses nightfall, calculated when the sun is 8.5° below the horizon. Check the upcoming times and the displayed time zone before enabling the routine.
Decide what stays available
Choose the blocking mode. For Essentials only, prepare a list of individual apps to keep available. Check messaging, navigation and other tools you may need before your first long break. Use No distractions if you prefer to block only your distractions list.
Enable your weekly pause
Turn on Enable every week and save. Plan something you want the time for: a meal, a walk, a book or a conversation. The routine supplies a boundary; you decide how to spend the space it creates.
Update your city when you travel
Mute does not track your location in the background. After travelling, select the new city or refresh your current location in the app, then review the time zone and the upcoming interval. Current location uses your iPhone’s time zone.
Keep control of the routine
You can disable the weekly schedule in Antitoxic Time. To stop all Mute restrictions, use Settings → Turn off all Mute restrictions. Ending only a manual timer does not stop an active weekly schedule.
