Mute

How to schedule quieter time on iPhone

Updated September 17, 2026

The most useful pause is often the one you do not have to remember to start. Mute’s Rhythm tab lets you reserve parts of your day for work, meals, reading or winding down.

Create your daily rhythm

  • Open Rhythm and choose Add a rhythm.
  • Give the routine a name you will recognize, such as “Evening offline”.
  • Set the start and end times.
  • Choose the days on which the schedule should start.
  • Choose No distractions or Essentials only. Make sure the corresponding app list is ready.
  • Turn on Enable schedule, then tap Save.

Choose the right blocking mode

No distractions uses your distractions list. Essentials only is a broader pause that leaves your chosen exceptions available. Choose useful apps in advance and check them before relying on a long routine. Learn about essentials.

Understand overnight schedules

When the end time is earlier than the start time, the interval ends the following day. A Monday schedule from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., for example, starts Monday night and finishes Tuesday morning. The weekday buttons select the starting days.

Check the time zone when travelling

Daily schedule times follow your iPhone’s time zone. Review your routines after a trip or a time-zone change. Antitoxic Time uses the location selected in its own settings, so check that separately.

Handle overlapping pauses

Ending a manual session does not cancel a separate active schedule. If restrictions seem to continue, look for another enabled routine. Settings → Turn off all Mute restrictions ends the manual timer and disables schedules together.

Start with a routine you will keep

Choose one useful interval before adding more. You might protect the first half-hour of work or the time you spend reading in bed. Mute supports up to eight custom schedules. For a longer break that follows the sun, explore Antitoxic Time.
