10 Best Free Metronome Apps for iPhone
Updated October 2, 2026 · written by AppHunt
A metronome app has one job — click on time — and the free versions differ mostly in what they hold back: accents and subdivisions, setlists, a trainer that speeds you up, or a screen without ads. Here are ten that keep a usable click free, in our own words.

Acord
AppHunt partner · promo codeAcord pairs a metronome with a tuner. Set anywhere between 20 and 300 BPM on a large dial or by tapping, pick any time signature, and it keeps clicking with the screen locked while your music plays; Siri, Control Center and Lock Screen buttons start it in a tap. Premium adds accents, triplets and sixteenths, a speed trainer, a practice timer and more sounds — free for a year with our promo code.

Smart Metronome
Smart Metronome puts a click, a tuner and a recorder on one screen, and every tool is free. A swinging pendulum marks the beat, repeat mode raises the tempo between run-throughs, program mode chains meter and tempo changes, and a practice log tracks your minutes.
Good for: All-in-one practice: click, tuner and recorder together
Keep in mind: Ad-supported, and reviewers mention full-screen ads. The ad-free edition is sold as a separate app, Smart Metronome & Tuner +, for $4.99.

Soundbrenner
Soundbrenner's free tier covers time signatures, subdivisions, multi-level accents, tap tempo, a count-in and over 20 click sounds, and lets you save songs into setlists. Around the metronome sit a practice log with streaks and reminders, a tuner, Ableton Link sync and pairing with the company's vibrating wearables.
Good for: Musicians who want practice stats next to the click
Keep in mind: Gradual tempo increases, a muted-beats trainer and cloud sync of your song library require the Soundbrenner Plus subscription, and the app shows banners for Plus and the company's hardware.

MetroTimer
MetroTimer (listed in the store as Metronome Ϟ) is a no-frills click whose developer says its timing is verified with clock-measuring equipment. The free version offers tap tempo, eight sounds including a spoken count, a visual pulse or camera-flash blink, a practice timer, and playback that mixes with other apps' audio.
Good for: A quick, no-setup click for practice in 4/4
Keep in mind: Shows ads in the free version. Accents, subdivisions, custom meters, the beat editor and saved presets come with MetroTimer Pro, a one-time in-app purchase listed at $9.99.

Metronome Pro by MWM
MWM's Metronome Pro sets the tempo on a scroll wheel between 30 and 250 BPM, handles time signatures and subdivisions, and colors each bar's first beat differently so you can follow by eye. The basic click is free; rhythm games that score your steadiness are partly locked behind a subscription.
Good for: Beginners who like to learn rhythm through games
Keep in mind: A subscription screen with a trial offer greets you on launch; you can close it, but premium features and the full set of game levels need a Premium Pass subscription (weekly, monthly or yearly). Reviewers say tap tempo is premium-only.

Pro Metronome
Pro Metronome's free tier lets you change the time signature, give every beat its own dynamic from loud to silent, tap in a tempo and pick from 13 sounds, a counting voice among them. It keeps playing in the background, runs on Apple Watch and adds a basic tuner and practice timer.
Good for: Players who want a clean, ad-free click with accents
Keep in mind: Subdivisions, polyrhythms, playlists, the bar-muting rhythm trainer, practice and stage modes, and flash or vibration cues need Pro: the store lists a $3.99 yearly plan, a $0.99 monthly plan, a $3.99 Pro Version and single-feature unlocks.

Gismart Metronome
Gismart's metronome pairs a swinging, analog-style pendulum with a plain digital readout, spans 10 to 250 BPM, and can flash the screen or vibrate on each beat. Four small games drill rhythm memory, note values and time signatures, and there is a companion Apple Watch app. A basic click is free.
Good for: Kids who learn rhythm better through games
Keep in mind: The free mode shows ads and limits tools and games; Premium (weekly, monthly, yearly or a $49.99 lifetime unlock) removes ads and opens everything. Reviewers say changing the time signature needs Premium. Last updated in 2024.

Metronome Beats Pro
Metronome Beats Pro's free version runs from 1 to 900 BPM, splits each beat into as many as 16 clicks, and adds swing, polyrhythms, a drum machine and a speed trainer that raises the tempo or silences bars. It keeps playing over other apps, and an Apple Watch app is included.
Good for: Drummers who want grooves, polyrhythms and a speed trainer
Keep in mind: The free version shows ads. Saving presets, building songs and setlists, live mode and bar counters need the one-time Pro unlock ($8.99), which reviewers say also removes ads.

Tempo Lite
Tempo Lite is the free edition of Frozen Ape's long-running Tempo and still covers a lot: 10 to 800 BPM, eight common meters with ready-made rhythm patterns, beats you can accent or silence, tap tempo, and a pendulum or LED display. Its automator can step up the tempo and alternate muted bars.
Good for: Players who want no ads and no data collection
Keep in mind: No ads, though reviewers mention frequent upgrade prompts. Setlists, the full list of 35 meters, extra sound sets and voice counting come with the one-time $2.99 full version; theme add-ons cost $0.99 each.

Metronome Reloaded
Metronome Reloaded is a free, ad-supported take on a lacquered wind-up metronome: swing the pendulum to start, then slide the weight or type a tempo from 20 to 999 BPM. It shows the Italian tempo name, accents the downbeat in meters up to 12/12, and keeps clicking in the background.
Good for: A classic pendulum look with just the basics
Keep in mind: A $1.99 in-app purchase removes the ads. Controls stop at tempo and meter; the developer's fuller app, Metronome touch, is paid ($3.99).

Questions and answers
Is there a free metronome app for iPhone?
Yes. All ten apps here are free to download and play a click without payment. Smart Metronome keeps every tool free in exchange for ads, while Pro Metronome and Tempo Lite have no ads in their free versions. Acord, first on the list, comes with a free year of Premium through the AppHunt promo code.
Does iPhone have a built-in metronome?
There is no metronome among the apps that come with iPhone. GarageBand, Apple's free music app, has one for playing and recording in time: tap the Settings button, open Metronome and Count-in to choose its sound and volume, and set the speed under Tempo. For practice on its own, a metronome app is quicker to start.
Is Pro Metronome free?
Its free version has no ads and covers time signatures, per-beat accents, tap tempo, 13 sounds and Apple Watch. Subdivisions, polyrhythms, playlists and the rhythm trainer need Pro, sold as a subscription or a one-time unlock; reviewers in August and September 2026 note that subdivisions became paid.
Is Soundbrenner free?
The core metronome is, per the developer: time signatures, subdivisions, accents, tap tempo, more than 20 sounds and setlists. Gradual tempo changes, the muted-beats trainer and cloud sync need the Soundbrenner Plus subscription, and the app also promotes Plus and the company's vibrating wearables.
Which metronome app has no ads?
Acord, Pro Metronome and Tempo Lite have no ads, and Soundbrenner shows no third-party ads — only promotions for its own subscription and hardware. Smart Metronome, MetroTimer, Metronome Beats Pro, Gismart's metronome and Metronome Reloaded show ads unless you pay; for Smart Metronome that means buying a separate ad-free app.
Is there a metronome app for Apple Watch?
Pro Metronome, Metronome Beats Pro, Tempo Lite and Gismart's metronome list Apple Watch support on their App Store pages. Soundbrenner, Smart Metronome, MetroTimer and MWM's Metronome Pro do not.
Can a metronome app speed up while I practice?
Yes — look for a speed or tempo trainer. Acord (with Premium), Metronome Beats Pro and Tempo Lite raise the tempo every few bars; Smart Metronome's repeat mode raises it between run-throughs; in Soundbrenner gradual tempo changes need Plus.
Are metronome apps accurate?
The well-known ones are built for it, and developers advertise their timing: Pro Metronome claims precision of about 20 microseconds, Smart Metronome plays its click on hardware timing, and MetroTimer says its click was checked with timing equipment. Bluetooth headphones delay every click slightly, which matters when you record or play along with others.
Does Acord also tune instruments?
Yes. Acord's tuner covers guitar, bass, ukulele, violin and 28 more instruments, with a needle that shows which way to turn. If a tuner is what you need most, we also compared ten free guitar tuner apps. 10 best free guitar tuner apps
How do I use the Acord promo code?
Tap Get on the Acord card. If you are not signed in to AppHunt you will be asked to log in, and the code appears right after. Redeem opens the App Store's own redemption screen with the code filled in.
How is the list ordered?
First place is Acord, an app made by the AppHunt team, with a promo code. Places 2–10 are ordered by the number of ratings in the US App Store, one app per developer; tuner-first apps that only add a metronome, such as GuitarTuna and Fender Tune, are left out.
