10 Best Free Guitar Tuner Apps for iPhone

Updated October 1, 2026 · written by AppHunt

A tuner app listens through the microphone, names the note you play and shows whether it is flat or sharp — and that part is free almost everywhere. The differences are in everything around it: guidance for beginners, alternate tunings, other instruments, and how many ads or upgrade screens stand between you and the tuner. Here are ten, in our own words.

    Guitar Wiz

Tuner, chord library and practice tools · Bijoy Thangaraj

    AppHunt partner · promo code

Guitar Wiz pairs a precise tuner — a live pitch graph and more than 20 alternate tunings, each with a reference tone — with a large chord library you can search by name, by notes or by tapping the fretboard. Chord Assist listens while you play and turns each fret green once it sounds right, and a metronome, progressions to jam over and a song sketcher round it out. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

  2. Fender Tune icon

    Fender Tune

Fender Digital, LLC · 151K ratings

Fender's tuner listens as you pluck and nudges each string toward pitch, or you can touch any string in the headstock picture to hear its reference note. Chromatic mode and 26 preset tunings cover guitar, bass and ukulele, and a free Fender account adds chord and scale libraries, drum loops and a metronome.

Good for: A free big-brand tuner with nothing to buy inside

Keep in mind: Per the developer, the Tune Plus extras (chords, scales, drum tracks, metronome, a finer tuner view) need a free Fender account, and that free access is a limited-time offer.

  3. GuitarTuna icon

    GuitarTuna

    Yousician Ltd · 148K ratings

Yousician's long-running tuner hears each plucked string through the microphone and filters out room noise as you go. It covers six-, seven- and twelve-string guitar plus bass, ukulele, violin, mandolin, banjo and more. The basic tuner is free; song tabs, lessons and a wider toolset are sold as subscriptions.

Good for: One tuner for guitar, bass, uke, violin and banjo

Keep in mind: Per the developer's listing, songs, lessons and extra tools come with paid subscriptions; it does not spell out which tunings stay free.

  5. CoachTuner icon

    CoachTuner

    ManoMaya · 46K ratings

From the makers of CoachGuitar, this tuner listens through the mic and walks you from the low E string upward, with an arrow that settles in the center once a note is right. It handles electric and acoustic guitar, bass and ukulele, and adds a chord library plus jam tracks from blues to reggae.

Good for: Simple guided tuning with jam tracks on the side

Keep in mind: Per the developer, a weekly or yearly Premium subscription adds 80 open tunings and the full chord library; the tuner itself is usable without it.

  6. Tuner Pro by MWM icon

    Tuner Pro by MWM

    MWM · 46K ratings

MWM's tuner relies on AI pitch detection and offers an automatic mode or a manual one where you choose the string, for guitar, bass and ukulele, plus a chromatic view for other instruments. Around it sit chord diagrams with audio, a metronome with subdivisions, chord-learning games and AI-generated chords and lyrics for songs.

Good for: Tuning plus chord and metronome practice

Keep in mind: Per the developer, the Premium subscription opens the full chord library, extra metronome features and the games, and removes ads. Many recent US reviews say the app asks for a trial or a subscription before it will tune.

  7. Pro Guitar Tuner icon

Pro Guitar Sweden AB · 10K ratings

A chromatic tuner accurate enough for intonation work, showing cents, a red-or-green in-tune light, a note wheel and a fretboard. It takes clip-on or external mics, plays real instrument samples for ear tuning, and holds 200-plus tunings for guitars of 4 to 13 strings, basses, ukuleles, banjos and mandolins.

  8. Tuner Lite by Piascore icon

    Tuner Lite by Piascore

    Piascore, Inc. · 10K ratings

A plain chromatic tuner from the Piascore sheet-music team. Hold a steady note and a needle, backed by sharp and flat lights, measures the gap to within about a cent. A pitch pipe plays reference tones, and it reads guitar and bass as readily as strings, woodwinds and brass.

Good for: Guitar plus band or orchestra instruments

Keep in mind: Per the developer, transposition, custom temperaments, solfège note names and adjustable calibration are reserved for the paid full version, a separate app.

  9. Guitar Tuner by Last Harmonic icon

    Guitar Tuner by Last Harmonic

Last Harmonic LLC · 8.2K ratings

A chromatic tuner kept simple: play any note into the mic and it names the pitch, so guitar, bass, ukulele and most other instruments work. A slider tames background noise, a fine scale reaches 50 cents either side, a wider one 2.5 semitones each way, and the display refreshes ten times a second.

Good for: A fast, simple tuner with no subscription

Keep in mind: Ad-supported; the only in-app purchase on its listing is a $4.99 ad removal.

  10. Pano Tuner Lite icon

    Pano Tuner Lite

Kaleloft Limited Liability Company · 7.7K ratings

A long-standing chromatic tuner whose readout gives the note name, the frequency in Hz and your distance in cents, for guitar, bass and ukulele as well as orchestral instruments and voice. You can move concert A, use Do-Re-Mi names, sound a reference tone or try old temperaments such as Werckmeister.

Good for: Hertz-and-cents detail and custom concert pitch

Keep in mind: Ad-supported, per the developer; the full Pano Tuner, sold as a separate paid app, has no ads.

Questions and answers

Is there a free guitar tuner app for iPhone?

Yes. All ten apps here are free to download, and most of them tune a guitar in standard tuning without paying. Fender Tune and Simply Tune have nothing to buy at all; the rest charge for extras such as alternate tunings, chord libraries or removing ads. Guitar Wiz, first on the list, is free for a year with the AppHunt promo code.

Is GuitarTuna free?

GuitarTuna is free to download, and its developer calls the guitar tuner free. In reviews from September 2026, people say standard tuning still works without paying, while Drop D and other tunings need a subscription and an upgrade screen often appears at launch. Songs, lessons and the extra tools are paid plans.

Is Fender Tune free?

Yes. Its App Store page lists no in-app purchases, and basic tuning works without signing up. The Tune Plus extras — chord and scale libraries, drum tracks and a metronome — need a free Fender account, which Fender describes as a limited-time offer.

Which guitar tuner app has no ads?

Simply Tune says it has no ads and nothing locked, and reviewers of Fender Tune do not mention ads. GuitarTuna, CoachTuner, Pro Guitar Tuner and the chromatic tuners from Piascore, Last Harmonic and Pano show ads unless you pay — or, for Piascore and Pano, buy the separate full version.

How do I tune a guitar with my iPhone?

Open a tuner app, allow microphone access and play one open string at a time. The app shows the note and whether it is flat (too low) or sharp (too high); turn the peg until the needle settles in the middle. Tune up to the note rather than down, and check that the app shows the string you meant to play — a string pulled an octave too high can snap.

Can I tune a guitar with GarageBand on iPhone?

Yes. GarageBand, Apple's free music app, has a tuner inside its guitar amp: tap the Tuner button in the upper-left corner and play an open string. Red lines show whether it is flat or sharp, and the note name turns blue when the string is in tune. A dedicated app adds string-by-string guidance and alternate tunings.

Are tuner apps accurate?

Accurate enough to tune by: a good app reads pitch within a cent or two, finer than most ears can hear. Developers state ±1 cent for Piascore, 0.33 Hz for Last Harmonic and ±0.01 cent for Guitar Wiz. A quiet room and one string at a time matter more than the choice of app.

Which tuner app is best for alternate tunings?

Pro Guitar Tuner lists more than 200 tunings, most of them in Premium; Fender Tune has 26 presets with nothing to buy; Guitar Wiz has more than 20, each with a reference tone. A chromatic tuner such as Pano or Piascore reads any note, so it works for any tuning once you know the target notes.

How do I use the Guitar Wiz promo code?

Tap Get on the Guitar Wiz card. If you are not signed in to AppHunt you will be asked to log in, and the code appears right after. Redeem opens the App Store's own redemption screen with the code filled in.

How is the list ordered?

First place is Guitar Wiz, an AppHunt partner app we have a promo code for. Places 2–10 are ordered by the number of ratings in the US App Store, one app per developer; metronomes and chord apps that only add a tuner on the side are left out.
