The fastest way: a redemption link

Many codes come with a link or a Redeem button — every code on AppHunt does. It opens the App Store’s own redemption screen with the code already filled in. Check the app name and the terms on that screen, then confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your Apple Account password. The app downloads, or the subscription is switched on inside the app.

Redeem a code on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. Tap your photo or the account button at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Redeem Code. On older versions of iOS it is called Redeem Gift Card or Code.
  4. Tap Enter Code Manually, type or paste the code, and tap Redeem.
  5. Sign in with your Apple Account if asked. The app starts downloading, or the purchase shows up in the app.

Some apps also have their own Redeem Code button, usually in their settings or on the subscription screen. It opens the same Apple screen, so the result is identical.

Redeem a code on a Mac

  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, or Sign In if you are not signed in.
  3. Click Redeem Code (Redeem Gift Card on older versions of macOS), enter the code and follow the instructions.

A code redeemed on a Mac works on your iPhone too, as long as the app is available there and you use the same Apple Account.

Promo codes, offer codes and gift cards

Gift cards add money to your Apple Account balance, and you can spend it on anything Apple sells.

Promo codes are made by a developer and give you a paid app for free. Since March 26, 2026, developers can no longer create new promo codes for in-app purchases — Apple moved that job to offer codes — but promo codes for paid apps remain.

Offer codes are also made by developers, for subscriptions and other in-app purchases. They give a free or discounted period — a month, three months, a year. A subscription offer can renew at the regular price when it ends; the redemption screen tells you whether it does.

Why a code does not work

Wrong country or region. A developer chooses the App Store regions where a code works. If your Apple Account is set to another country, the code is refused.

Already used. Every code works once. Offers with a fixed number of codes run out, sometimes within hours.

Not eligible. Many subscription offers are only for people who have never subscribed to that app, or only for current or former subscribers. Apple checks this when you redeem.

Expired. Codes have an end date set by the developer.

A typo. Codes mix letters and digits, and O and 0 are easy to confuse. Copy and paste the code, or use the Redeem link.

Will I be charged after the free period?

Only if the offer renews automatically — both the redemption screen and the offer’s terms on AppHunt say so. To stop a renewal, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, choose the app and tap Cancel Subscription. Do it at least 24 hours before the free period ends. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

In some apps, cancelling during a free period ends access right away, so if you want the whole period, set a reminder for the day before it ends instead of cancelling on day one.

Where to find free promo codes

Developers give codes away to get their first users and reviews: in newsletters, on social media, and through sites like AppHunt, where they share codes in bulk. The codes below are live right now; the full list is on the promo codes page. Paid apps that are free for a limited time — no code needed — are on apps gone free today.

Questions and answers

Does Apple have its own promo codes for the App Store?

Apple does not publish general discount codes for the App Store. The codes you can redeem there are Apple Gift Cards, or promo and offer codes that developers create for their own apps and give away.

Is it safe to redeem a code I found on a website?

Yes, as long as you redeem it in the App Store: a code can only unlock something, it cannot charge you or read your account. Never type your Apple Account password on a website — the App Store asks for it inside the app.

Can I use an App Store code on Android?

No. App Store codes only work in the App Store. Google Play has its own codes, which you redeem in the Play Store app under your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Redeem code.

Can I give a promo code to someone else?

Yes, if you have not redeemed it — a code is not tied to an account until someone uses it. After that it is spent.
