Best free alternative to Piano Academy: Klavi
Piano Academy is free to start, but most songs and lessons need Premium, and its listing doesn't say how much is free. Klavi, from the AppHunt team, also listens to your own piano, and its free part covers Piano Basics, 11 easy songs and a daily round of each trainer, with no account and no ads. With the AppHunt promo code you get the full version of Klavi for free, for good.
Piano Academy is free to download and lets you start on an on-screen keyboard, but its listing says unlimited access to every tutorial, game and song, without ads, needs a Premium subscription billed monthly or yearly. The developer doesn't say what exactly is free. The US App Store lists in-app purchases from $7.99 to $119.99 without naming billing periods; these are US prices on November 3, 2026, and they may change.
Is Piano Academy free?
Yokee Music's listing says you can start playing at once on a touch keyboard, and that the app also works with MIDI and listens to an acoustic or electronic piano. It doesn't list the free content, and the app's site, which now sits on Stingray Group's pages, doesn't either. What users say is more specific: reviews from 2026 describe a daily practice-time limit, a break before you can play again, and most songs asking for payment. One reviewer in March 2026 says the lessons are free while the songbook is mostly not. Premium is described as all premium tutorials, all premium games, all songs and an ad-free experience.
How much does Piano Academy cost?

Klavi or Piano Academy: how they compare
Klavi, made by the AppHunt team, does the same core job as Piano Academy: it hears your playing through the microphone or over USB and Bluetooth MIDI and tells you whether you hit the right note. In Wait mode the music pauses until you find the key, and a wrong key is named back to you. Six courses with 36 lessons teach you to read notation from lesson one, and 32 pieces come at up to three levels, with Note Sprint, ear and rhythm trainers beside them. The free part is Piano Basics plus the opening lesson of each other course, 11 easy songs and a daily round of each trainer, with no account and no ads. Klavi Pro, which opens everything, is free with AppHunt's promo code at apphunt.app/app/klavi-pro; the App Store sells it at $39.99 a year, $89.99 once or $4.99 a week. Piano Academy has what Klavi lacks: tutorial videos with an instructor, a game for each skill and a mix of contemporary hits next to classical pieces. Klavi is built for iPhone with iOS 17 or later, has no Android version and is new, with no ratings yet.

AppHunt has no promo code for Piano Academy, and we found no discount program published by the developer. If you want a free piano app, Klavi is free to start, and AppHunt has a promo code at apphunt.app/app/klavi-pro that unlocks Klavi Pro.
Does Piano Academy have a free trial?
The listing doesn't mention a free trial, and none of its purchase names refers to one. Free play is limited by a time allowance, according to reviewers, so the free app works more like a daily sample.

Does Piano Academy hear a real piano?
Yes, according to its listing: it says the app hears each note you play on an acoustic or electronic piano and supports MIDI. Several 2026 reviewers, though, say the microphone didn't pick up their piano, so test it with the free keyboard first.
What is the best free alternative to Piano Academy?
For lessons on your own piano, Klavi, made by the AppHunt team, is free to start: a Piano Basics course, 11 easy songs and daily trainers, with no account or ads, and our promo code unlocks Klavi Pro.
