MyFitnessPal: price, what's free and the best free alternative
MyFitnessPal, Inc. · Health & Fitness · ★ 4.7, 2.4M ratings in the US App Store · Free to download
Yes, MyFitnessPal is free to download, and keeping a food and exercise diary with its food database costs nothing. Premium, which adds barcode scanning, photo logging (Meal Scan) and voice logging, is listed at $9.99 or $19.99 a month and $49.99 or $79.99 a year (US App Store prices on October 29, 2026; they may change).
Is MyFitnessPal free?
The free plan is a complete food diary. You can log meals and workouts, search MyFitnessPal's database of more than 20 million foods, save foods, meals and recipes of your own, see calories and macronutrients, adjust your calorie goal and split macros by percentage, record your weight and body measurements, let friends view your diary, and link partner apps and fitness trackers; on the website you can also print a report. What the free plan leaves out is the quick logging: the barcode scanner has been a Premium feature since October 1, 2022, and Meal Scan and voice logging are Premium as well.
How much does MyFitnessPal cost?
Premium adds the faster ways to log (barcode scan, Meal Scan with the camera, voice logging, logging several days at once), macro targets in grams, separate goals for each day or meal, intermittent fasting, food analysis, a Net Carbs mode, data export, an ad-free diary and priority support. On iPhone, the AI nutrition Coach is also reserved for paying members, for now in English and in six countries. Premium+ goes further with a meal planner built on more than 1,500 recipes, meal prep tools and grocery lists. In the US App Store, MyFitnessPal Monthly Premium is listed at $19.99 and $9.99, Yearly Premium at $79.99 and $49.99, Annual Premium at $79.99, and plain MyFitnessPal Premium at $9.99 and $49.99; the listing doesn't say which price applies to whom, and Premium+ isn't named in it. Best free alternative to MyFitnessPal: FOOD IQ
If photo logging is the Premium feature you are after, FOOD IQ, an AppHunt partner app, does that one job: photograph your plate, and it names the dish and estimates the portion and the calories, which you confirm or correct before anything is saved. A plate with several foods works from one photo, and the day adds up to a single total. In MyFitnessPal, logging from the camera (Meal Scan) needs Premium; FOOD IQ's premium is free with the AppHunt promo code. It is not a full replacement: FOOD IQ doesn't have MyFitnessPal's huge food database or a barcode scanner, and it is built around calories, while MyFitnessPal also tracks macros, workouts and water. Photo numbers are estimates, so use them as a guide rather than nutrition advice.

MyFitnessPal: questions and answers
Is MyFitnessPal free?
Yes. The app is free to download, and the free plan covers food and exercise logging, the food database, your own recipes, macronutrients and macro goals by percentage. The barcode scanner, Meal Scan, voice logging and the AI Coach need Premium.
How much does MyFitnessPal Premium cost?
In the US App Store on October 29, 2026, Monthly Premium is listed at $19.99 and $9.99 and Yearly Premium at $79.99 and $49.99, with Annual Premium at $79.99 and plain MyFitnessPal Premium at $9.99 and $49.99. The listing doesn't say which price you will be offered, and prices may change. MyFitnessPal's help center adds that prices differ between countries and plan lengths.
Is there a MyFitnessPal promo code?
AppHunt doesn't have a promo code for MyFitnessPal. MyFitnessPal's own promotional codes are entered on its website rather than in the app, and not while a Premium subscription is still running. If photo logging is what you want, FOOD IQ's premium is free with the AppHunt promo code.
Does MyFitnessPal have a free trial?
Yes. MyFitnessPal says that anyone who has never had Premium or a Premium trial can try Premium free for 7 days; unless you cancel, the first charge comes when the trial ends. Premium+ can be tried free for 7 days as well.
How do I cancel MyFitnessPal Premium?
If you subscribed in the iPhone app, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose MyFitnessPal and cancel there; Apple manages that billing. If you paid on myfitnesspal.com, cancel on the website by switching auto-renewal off in Subscription Settings. Premium stays on until the paid period ends, and a cancellation made within a day of renewal may not stop that charge.
What is the best free alternative to MyFitnessPal?
It depends on what you use it for. To log meals from photos without paying, FOOD IQ, an AppHunt partner app, names the dish and estimates the portion and calories, and its premium is free with the AppHunt promo code. If you rely on barcode scanning or a big food database, compare the other apps in our list of free calorie counter apps.
