Minifig Scan app: is it free, what it costs and free alternatives
Francis Bonnin · Utilities · ★ 4.9, 3K ratings in the US App Store · Free to download
Yes. The Minifig Scan app costs nothing to download or to use, and the developer's page calls it freely available. Neither its App Store listing nor that page mentions a premium version, a subscription or a free trial, and the only in-app purchases in the US App Store are three optional tips: $1.99 (Buy us a coffee), $4.99 (Buy us a minifig) and $9.99 (Buy us a set). That leaves no promo code to look for; these are US App Store prices on October 30, 2026, and they may change.
Is Minifig Scan free?
Minifig Scan is free to download on iPhone and iPad, and its developer, Francis Bonnin of Paco Labs, says on the app's web page that you can get it free from the App Store and Google Play. Everything the listing describes comes without a paywall: reading the data codes on supported minifigure boxes, even several boxes at once; counters, favorites and personal notes for your collection; browsing series, with 360-degree views of some figures; a blind mode that flags doubles without naming the figures; Home Screen widgets; and a feed of LEGO news and deals. Besides the optional tips, the listing says some shopping links in the app are affiliate links, which earn the developer a small commission. US reviews from 2025 and 2026 describe unlimited free scans, a donation prompt you can ignore, and no ads, and the developer's privacy label says the app collects no data.
How much does Minifig Scan cost?
There is no paid version to buy. The US App Store lists three in-app purchases and all of them are tips: $1.99 (Buy us a coffee), $4.99 (Buy us a minifig) and $9.99 (Buy us a set). Neither the listing nor the developer's page says a tip unlocks anything, and reviewers say the app works in full without one. No subscription, trial, premium plan or discount code is mentioned in the listing or on the developer's page. These are US App Store prices on October 30, 2026, and they may change.

About Minifig Scan
Minifig Scan, from Francis Bonnin (Paco Labs), has been in the App Store since January 2024 and has 2,968 ratings averaging 4.9 in the US store. It is a fan app, not an official LEGO product. It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 15 or later and has an Android version, and version 5.0.7 came out on October 19, 2026. It reads the data code printed on supported collectible minifigure boxes, so you can see which figure is inside before you buy; the developer's page lists ten scannable collections, from Series 25 up to the Shrek series, while older series can be browsed and tracked but not identified by scanning. It suits collectors who shop for blind-box figures in a store and want to avoid doubles.

Minifig Scan: questions and answers
Is Minifig Scan free?
Yes. Minifig Scan is free to download and use, and its developer's page calls it freely available. Reviews from 2025 and 2026 describe unlimited free scans and an optional tip prompt that you can skip. Apart from tips, the listing says the app earns a small commission on some shopping links.
How much does Minifig Scan cost?
Nothing is required. The US App Store lists three optional tips: $1.99 (Buy us a coffee), $4.99 (Buy us a minifig) and $9.99 (Buy us a set). There is no subscription or one-time unlock. US prices on October 30, 2026; they may change.
Is there a Minifig Scan promo code?
AppHunt has no promo code for Minifig Scan, and a code would have nothing to unlock: neither the App Store listing nor the developer's page mentions a premium version, a subscription, a coupon or a discount, and the in-app purchases are tips. You can already use every feature the developer describes without paying.
Is there a Minifig Scan premium or a free trial?
Neither is mentioned in the App Store listing or on the developer's page, and the app's features are described without any paid tier. A free trial would have nothing to try, because scanning, the collection tools and the widgets are already free. Tips are the only purchases.
Which minifigure boxes can Minifig Scan read?
Boxes that carry a supported data code. On October 30, 2026 the developer's page lists ten scannable collections: Series 25 through 29 (the Space and Animals series included), Dungeons & Dragons, a Spider-Man movie series, F1 Collectible Race Cars, Mighty Machines and the Shrek series. Older series can be browsed and tracked in the app, but their packs can't be identified by scanning, and the app's built-in help shows where to find the code.
What is the best free alternative to Minifig Scan?
Minifig Scan is already free, so most people can simply keep it. For a second blind-box reader, omgbricks (a LEGO set database and deal tracker) says its scanner names the figure inside unopened collectible boxes from Series 25 on, and WhatFig says it identifies figures from a photo and reads the QR codes on collectible boxes. Apps that photograph a pile of loose bricks, such as Brickit and Noppi, do a different job: they name and count loose pieces, not the figure inside a sealed box. Our list of free LEGO scanner apps sorts them by what they scan.
Is Minifig Scan an official LEGO app?
No. Minifig Scan is a fan app by Francis Bonnin of Paco Labs. The LEGO Group owns the LEGO® trademark, and its listing says the company has not sponsored, authorized or endorsed the app; the same goes for this page.
AppHunt is not affiliated with Francis Bonnin. Prices are US App Store prices checked on October 30, 2026 and can change; your country’s store may show different prices.
