Free helper for Grindr: Flirta
Grindr is free to use, with ads, and its paid XTRA and Unlimited tiers remove third-party ads and widen what you can see and do. Flirta, an AppHunt partner app, is not a dating app and doesn't replace Grindr: it drafts openers and replies for your Grindr chats, which you edit and send yourself. With the AppHunt promo code you get the full version of Flirta for free, for good.
Yes: Grindr is free to download and use. A free account can build a profile, see people nearby and chat, and it shows third-party ads. XTRA removes those ads and adds a bigger grid and more features, Unlimited adds Viewed Me, Incognito and message unsend, and Edge is a newer AI tier tested in some markets. The US App Store lists XTRA at $14.99 and $22.99 and Unlimited at $27.99 and $44.99 without naming the billing period; these are US App Store prices on October 30, 2026, and they may change.
Is Grindr free?
Grindr's App Store page lists what the free app does: you can see people nearby, add interest tags and search by them, keep private albums, send private photos in chats, use filters, star favorites, and block or report people. Free accounts include third-party ads; Grindr says its ad partners get limited data but not your profile information, and you can change the ad privacy settings in the app. Right Now, a one-hour status that tells nearby people you are available, comes with free sessions that reset every Friday at 5 PM local time, and extra sessions cost money. Grindr doesn't say how many profiles the free grid shows, and Grindr Web, the browser version, is open only to XTRA and Unlimited subscribers. US reviewers in September and October 2026 call the free grid limited and say the ads are frequent.
How much does Grindr cost?
Grindr sells two subscription tiers, add-ons and, in a few places, a third tier. XTRA removes third-party ads, widens the grid, lets you start up to five chats a day through Explore and adds saved phrases, read receipts, five expiring photos a day and Grindr Web. Unlimited includes all of that plus unlimited profiles, Viewed Me, typing status, Incognito, message unsend, chat translation and unlimited expiring photos. Edge, described as an AI-powered tier that includes Unlimited, is being tested in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and some US cities, with prices that Grindr says vary during the test. Add-ons that don't renew include Boosts, Right Now sessions, Roam and a 24-hour Unlimited Day Pass. The US App Store lists XTRA at $14.99 (twice) and $22.99, Unlimited at $27.99 (twice) and $44.99, a Day Pass at $9.99, a Boost at $11.99 and two items named 1 MONTH at $24.99 and $27.99, with no billing periods. Grindr says a plan can last a week, a month, three months or a year, and its terms say prices vary by region and are regularly tested. US reviewers mention about $15 to $29 a week and $20 to $50 a month for XTRA or Unlimited; several quote $240 to $500 a month for Edge, and Grindr's help page gives no Edge price. Flirta with Grindr: what it adds
Flirta, an AppHunt partner app, is not a dating app and doesn't replace Grindr: there is no grid, no profiles and no one nearby to find in it. What it offers is help with wording. Show it a chat screenshot or paste in a message, describe the other person and what you hope to say, pick how bold or gentle it should sound, and it suggests a reply or several openers; you choose one, edit it and send it yourself in Grindr. It can also tidy a draft you wrote and gives short lessons on timing and respect. Flirta's listing doesn't mention Grindr or any particular community, so it simply works from the text you give it. Flirta costs nothing to download, and its US listing shows Premium at $6.99 a month or $39.99 a year with no word on what the free version covers; AppHunt has a promo code that unlocks the paid version. It can't unlock XTRA or Unlimited features, read your chats or send for you, it is built for iPhone (iOS 13 or later), and it has 51 ratings so far. Its privacy label lists user content among the data it collects, so leave out private details and other people's personal information.

About Grindr
Grindr, from Grindr LLC, is a dating and chat app for people who are gay, bi, trans or queer, and it has 389,353 ratings averaging 4.4 on the US App Store; it has been there since June 2009. A grid shows who is nearby, and Grindr's App Store text also pitches it to travelers who want to meet locals; Grindr calls itself the largest social network for LGBTQ people. The app needs iOS 15 or newer and is rated 18+, and version 26.23.0 came out on October 29, 2026. Of the 250 most recent US reviews, posted September 5 to October 28, 2026, 172 give one star: the cost of paid tiers and paywalls is the most frequent complaint, followed by ads, including on paid plans, and by bot or spam profiles. It suits people who want to see who is nearby at this moment.

Grindr: questions and answers
Is Grindr free?
Yes. Grindr is free to download and use: you can make a profile, see people nearby, chat, share private photos and use filters. The free app includes third-party ads; XTRA and Unlimited remove them and add features such as a bigger grid, read receipts, Viewed Me and Incognito. Grindr says it doesn't share your profile information with its ad partners.
How much does Grindr cost?
There is no single Grindr price: its pages list none, and its terms say prices vary by region, plan and length and are regularly tested. The US App Store lists XTRA at $14.99 and $22.99, Unlimited at $27.99 and $44.99, an Unlimited Day Pass at $9.99 and a Boost at $11.99, with no billing periods; Grindr says a plan can last a week, a month, three months or a year. Edge, a newer tier in testing, has no published price. US prices on October 30, 2026; they may change.
Is there a Grindr promo code?
AppHunt has no promo code for Grindr. Grindr's terms say it may issue codes that give a price cut, a trial period or free access for a while, that each code works once and expires on a set date, and that referral codes can't be sold or posted publicly; its help center says promotions vary by location. Treat any site that sells 'Grindr codes' with caution. If writing the messages is the hard part, AppHunt has a promo code that unlocks the paid version of Flirta, a free helper for chats; the card on this page shows its terms.
Does Grindr have a free trial?
Sometimes. Grindr's terms say it may let some users try a paid feature for free or at a lower price for a short time, and that if a payment method is required the trial rolls into a paid subscription unless canceled first; Grindr decides who qualifies and doesn't publish who gets one or how long it lasts. Its App Store text adds that any unused trial time is lost if you buy a subscription, and its help center says to cancel before the trial ends to avoid the first charge.
What is Grindr Premium?
Grindr doesn't sell a plan called Premium. Its paid plans are XTRA and Unlimited, and Edge in some markets. XTRA removes third-party ads and widens the grid; Unlimited includes XTRA plus unlimited profiles, Viewed Me, Incognito, unsend and chat translation, which Grindr limits to 1,000 characters a day; Edge adds AI features such as Discover and Profile Insights to Unlimited. A 24-hour Unlimited Day Pass is sold separately.
How do I cancel Grindr XTRA or Unlimited?
If you subscribed through the App Store, open the App Store app, tap your profile picture, then Subscriptions, choose Grindr and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep the paid features until the paid period runs out, and deleting your profile or the app doesn't cancel it. Grindr says purchases are final and not refundable, and that refunds for App Store purchases go through Apple.
Does Flirta work with Grindr?
Yes, in the sense that it works with any chat: Flirta isn't connected to Grindr or any other dating app. You give it a chat screenshot or paste a message, choose a tone, and copy a suggested reply back into Grindr yourself. Its listing doesn't mention Grindr or any particular community, and it can't unlock XTRA or Unlimited features. Flirta is free to download, and AppHunt has a promo code that unlocks its paid version.
Is there a Grindr alternative?
Flirta isn't one: it is a writing helper, not a place to meet people. If you want a different dating app, AppHunt's list of the 10 best free dating apps compares Grindr with nine others, among them Tinder, Bumble and OkCupid, and each can be used without paying.
AppHunt is not affiliated with Grindr LLC. Prices are US App Store prices checked on October 30, 2026 and can change; your country’s store may show different prices.
