Gottman Card Decks app: is it free, what it costs and a free alternative

AppHunt has no promo code for Gottman Card Decks, but we have one for the alternative below.
Best free alternative to Gottman Card Decks: Duet
Gottman Card Decks costs nothing, so the reason to look elsewhere is the format: it is a stack of cards to browse and read aloud. Duet, from the AppHunt team, sends both of you one question a day and keeps each answer hidden until you both write, and AppHunt has a promo code that unlocks Duet+. With the AppHunt promo code you get the full version of Duet for free, for good.
Yes: Gottman Card Decks is free, and the US App Store listing shows no in-app purchases, so there is no price to pay and nothing to cancel. The listing counts 22 decks and the Gottman Institute's own page says 14, and both mention over a thousand cards. These are US App Store details on November 2, 2026, and they may change.
Is Gottman Card Decks free?
Everything in the app is free, according to the developer: its listing and the Gottman Institute's page both call it a free app, and neither mentions a subscription. You get the card decks (the listing names Love Maps, Opportunity for date nights and the Salsa decks for intimacy), a star to mark favorite cards, tabs to switch between all cards and favorites, and links to other free Gottman resources. The developer doesn't say whether an account is needed. Reviewers in 2026 call it a free, simple way to start conversations, though some report trouble with large text sizes, where the end of a longer card can't be scrolled into view.
How much does Gottman Card Decks cost?
Nothing inside the app is sold: the US App Store listing has no In-App Purchases section. Gottman does sell other things, and its app page points to the Relationship Adviser (a self-assessment with a tailored plan), the Gottman Assessment, workshops and a store, but it doesn't give their prices and we haven't priced them. On November 2, 2026 the Gottman site showed an October sale banner for its store; that concerns those products, not the free app. These are US App Store details on November 2, 2026, and they may change.
Duet or Gottman Card Decks: how they compare
Gottman Card Decks is already free, so Duet is not a way to save money; it is a different habit. Duet, made by the AppHunt team, gives you and your partner the same single prompt each day, a question, a choice between two things or a small task. Each answer stays hidden until you have both written one, and a shared record keeps every answered day. Pulse shares your mood with one tap, and Rehearsal lets you draft something hard to say in private. Duet's daily part is free with no account, and Duet+ adds seven-step Journeys and unlimited rehearsals, shared by the pair; AppHunt's promo code at apphunt.app/app/duet-plus unlocks it. What Duet doesn't do is the main thing the Gottman app does well. It has no big deck library with more than 1,000 cards to flick through, no Love Maps or date-night decks, no favorites, and nothing built on the Gottmans' research. It is iPhone-only and speaks English and Russian, and it launched on October 4, 2026 with no ratings yet. If you want a free pile of conversation starters for a date night, keep the Gottman app.
