AppHunt has no promo code for BetterSleep, but we have one for the alternative below.

Best free alternative to BetterSleep: Nod

BetterSleep says it has stopped being a free app: a subscription unlocks the library, and a canceled one leaves very little. Nod, from the AppHunt team, gives you 22 sounds, mixes of three, a fading timer and a wake-up alarm for free, without ads or an account. With the AppHunt promo code you get the full version of Nod for free, for good.

No, not any more. The BetterSleep app is free to download, but its developer says it became a subscription service in 2025 and has stopped being free to use: new users get a trial, and a paid plan is what opens the whole library of sounds, meditations, stories and music. The US App Store lists BetterSleep Premium at six prices from $11.99 to $99.99, plus Premium-Tracker plans at $52.99 and $69.99, without saying which is monthly, yearly or lifetime, and US reviewers most often name about $70 a year after a seven-day trial; these are US App Store prices on October 30, 2026, and they may change.

Is BetterSleep free?

BetterSleep costs nothing to download, but it no longer works as a free app. In its help center the developer says it changed in 2025 from free-with-paid-extras to a subscription service: new users are offered a free trial of the whole library, and after that a paying plan is what unlocks the sounds, meditations, stories, music and other premium features. If a subscription ends or is canceled, the app still opens, but BetterSleep says what stays available is very limited, and it doesn't list what. US reviews from March to October 2026 describe what is left as a handful of sounds, usually three to six, and many longtime users say a recent update moved almost every sound and mix behind the subscription. BetterSleep says it offered existing users reduced first-year plans when it made the change, and a few reviewers say a Premium purchase they made earlier no longer covers what it used to.

How much does BetterSleep cost?

BetterSleep sells monthly plans, yearly plans (which it calls the most popular) and a one-time Lifetime Membership, and its help center says prices vary by platform and offer without printing them. The US App Store lists BetterSleep Premium at $11.99, $23.99, $39.99, $59.99, $69.99 and $99.99, BetterSleep Premium-Tracker at $52.99 and $69.99, and one entry named Subscription at $69.99; the listing doesn't say which price belongs to which plan. The Family Plan article values one yearly membership at $59.99, and BetterSleep's site sells five memberships for a year at $119.99 and a Premium Student Plan at $6.99 a month. A subscription bought on bettersleep.com works on iOS and Android, while one bought in the App Store is managed and refunded by Apple. Subscriptions renew on their own, and the terms call them non-refundable, though support says it reviews requests case by case. The App Store figures are US prices on October 30, 2026, the website ones were read the same day, and all of them may change.

Nod or BetterSleep: how they compare

Nod, made by the AppHunt team, covers the part of BetterSleep that works as a bedside sound machine: a mix of steady sounds, a timer and an alarm. Nod's free tier has no time limit, no ads and no account, and it holds 22 sounds, such as rain, ocean waves and brown noise, plus mixes of three, ten ready-made mixes, a timer that lowers the volume gradually and a gentle wake-up alarm. BetterSleep's help center, by contrast, lists alarms and timers among what its trial unlocks. Nod Premium opens 34 further sounds, bigger mixes of up to eight sounds and every wake-up sound; it can be bought once for $49.99 or as a subscription at $29.99 a year (after a 7-day trial), $4.99 a month or $2.99 a week, and AppHunt has a promo code that unlocks it at apphunt.app/app/nod-premium. Nod generates its sounds live instead of playing recordings. It is far smaller than BetterSleep, though: no sleep stories, guided meditations or hypnosis (only breathing exercises and a bell-based meditation timer), no sleep tracker or snore recorder, 56 sounds against BetterSleep's hundreds, and no Android, Apple Watch, Apple TV or web version. It is also new, released on October 24, 2026, with no ratings yet.

BetterSleep: questions and answers

Is BetterSleep free?

Not really. The app costs nothing to download and new users can start a trial, but BetterSleep says it has stopped being a free app: since 2025 it has been a subscription service, and a paying plan is what opens the full library of sounds, meditations, stories and music. After you cancel or a subscription ends, BetterSleep says what stays available is very limited, and US reviews from 2026 count about three to six free sounds. If you only need sleep sounds, Nod is free to use with no trial, and AppHunt has a promo code for its Premium.

How much does BetterSleep cost?

In the US App Store, BetterSleep Premium is listed at $11.99, $23.99, $39.99, $59.99, $69.99 and $99.99, Premium-Tracker at $52.99 and $69.99, and an entry called Subscription at $69.99; the listing doesn't say which is monthly, yearly or lifetime. BetterSleep's help center names monthly, yearly and Lifetime plans without prices, and its website sells the five-membership Family Plan for $119.99. US reviewers most often mention about $70 a year after a seven-day trial. US prices on October 30, 2026; they may change.

Is there a BetterSleep promo code?

AppHunt has no promo code for BetterSleep. BetterSleep says it offers promotional pricing and special offers from time to time, in the app or through its support team; its site lists a Premium Student Plan at $6.99 a month, the Family Plan with five memberships for $119.99, gift cards, and Premium through a Wellhub membership. If sleep sounds are what you need, Nod is free to use, and AppHunt has a promo code that unlocks Nod Premium at apphunt.app/app/nod-premium.

Does BetterSleep have a free trial?

Yes, for new subscribers. BetterSleep says some of its plans start with a free trial that unlocks the whole library (sleep sounds, music, meditations, SleepTales, the sleep tracker, alarms and timers), that each person can use it once, and that it sends a push notification before the trial ends, but only if notifications are on. BetterSleep's trial articles don't give its length; US reviews from 2026 describe seven days, and several say a charge of about $70 arrived without a reminder. If you start one, switch notifications on and cancel at least a day or two before it ends.

How do I cancel BetterSleep?

If you subscribed through the App Store, open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, choose Subscriptions, pick BetterSleep and tap Cancel Subscription; inside the app, Profile, then Account and Manage next to Subscription, leads to the same place. A plan bought on bettersleep.com is canceled on the website instead and won't appear in Apple's list. BetterSleep says to cancel at least 24 to 48 hours before the trial or billing period ends; canceling keeps Premium until the paid period runs out but doesn't reverse a charge already made, and Apple handles refund requests for App Store purchases.

What does BetterSleep Premium include?

Per BetterSleep, a subscription or the trial unlocks sleep sounds, music, ASMR and brainwave sounds, meditations, SleepTales bedtime stories, sleep tracking along with insights into your sleep quality, and the ordinary alarm, the smart alarm and timers. The App Store text also describes a recorder for snoring and sleep talking, bedtime reminders, favorites and playlists, and Smart Mix, which hides the points where sound loops restart. The listing also shows Premium-Tracker plans but doesn't explain how they differ.

What is the best free alternative to BetterSleep?

For the sounds, timer and alarm, Nod is a free app from the AppHunt team, made for iPhone and iPad. It plays 22 sounds free with no ads or account, among them rain, ocean waves and brown noise, and our promo code unlocks Nod Premium. It has no sleep stories, meditations or sleep tracking, so if those are why you use BetterSleep, it is still the one to keep. Our list of free white noise and sleep sounds apps has more options.

What do reviews of the BetterSleep app say?

BetterSleep has 390,830 ratings averaging 4.7 in the US App Store, but its newest reviews are harsher: of the 500 most recent ones, from March 16 to October 28, 2026, 289 give one star, and the large majority of those are about paying. People who still like it praise the sound mixing and the SleepTales stories; critics say almost every sound is now locked, there is no free tier, only a trial, and charges after the trial came as a surprise.
