Gauge Privacy Policy

Updated September 29, 2026

Gauge is a mileage log for iPhone and iPad published by Glory Mae Dagapioso. This policy explains what happens to the information the app handles.

The short version

  • Gauge has no account, no ads and no servers, and it collects no analytics.
  • Your drives (times, routes, distances, addresses, categories, notes) are stored only on your device.
  • Location is used to record drives. Motion & Fitness is used only to tell a drive from a walk or a bike ride.
  • To show street addresses and road distances, the start and end points of a drive are looked up with Apple Maps.
  • Apple handles purchases of Gauge Premium.

Location

With your permission, the app uses location to notice and record drives. While you're parked it relies on low-power services (a geofence around the parked car, significant location changes and visits); during a drive it uses the GPS to record the route and distance. With location Always, this works while the app is closed. Locations are stored only on your device, as part of your drives, and are never sent to us or to anyone else, except as described under Apple Maps below. You can change or turn off location access at any time in iOS Settings.

Motion & Fitness

The app reads the motion classification iOS provides (for example, in a car, walking, cycling) around the start and end of a drive, to avoid logging walks and bike rides and to date a drive noticed late. It keeps only the last few minutes of this information, on the device.

Apple Maps

To turn the start and end of a drive into street addresses, to measure the road distance of a trip you add by hand or of the first stretch of a drive noticed late, to search for places, and to draw maps, the app uses Apple's MapKit services. These requests send coordinates or search text to Apple, without any identifier from us, and are handled under Apple's privacy policy. The app doesn't send your drives anywhere else.

What is stored on your device

  • Your drives and trips, with their routes, addresses, categories, purposes, notes, parking and tolls, and their change history.
  • Named places, vehicles and odometer readings.
  • Your settings: country, rates, units, languages, work hours and preferences.
  • A diagnostics log of detection events (wake-ups, drives started and finished, distances) without any locations. It is shared only if you choose to send it to support.

This information is included in your device backups (iCloud or computer) like other app data, and is deleted when you delete the app or use Settings → Delete all data. You can export all of it at any time with Settings → Export every drive.

Sharing

Reports and exports are created on your device and leave it only when you share them, with the app or person you choose.

Notifications

Notifications (for example "Drive recorded") are created on your device. No push service is used.

Purchases

Gauge Premium subscriptions and the lifetime purchase go through Apple's App Store, under Apple's privacy policy. We don't receive your name, email address or payment details.

Children

Gauge isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
