Answers to the questions people ask about 70mm, the video player for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Can't find what you need? Email support@apphunt.app and we'll help.
Playing videos
Add videos from Files, a USB drive, iCloud Drive, Photos, or straight from another app with Share to 70mm. On a computer, open Files › Wi-Fi Transfer in 70mm and type the address it shows into a browser on the same Wi-Fi, then drag videos in.
If a video won't open, 70mm says why. A file that was still downloading, or one that was cut short, plays as far as it goes and then stops with a message.
Subtitles
Subtitle files next to the video are picked up automatically, including ones in a Subs folder. SRT, WebVTT, ASS and SSA are supported, with styling and positioning.
Settings › Subtitles decides when subtitles come on: automatically (in your language when the audio is in another one, plus forced subtitles and files you added), only for other languages, always, or off. With 70mm Pro you can also translate the subtitles playing into another language, on the device.
Network shares
Files › Add Server adds a NAS or computer over SMB, SFTP, FTP, WebDAV or NFS. Type the address (for example 192.168.1.20 or nas.local), the share or folder, and your user name and password. Passwords are kept in the device keychain.
If a server doesn't answer, check that both devices are on the same Wi-Fi and that Local Network is allowed for 70mm in Settings › Privacy & Security. A WebDAV server with its own security certificate needs HTTPS turned off for that server, or a certificate your devices trust.
Playing on a TV
Install 70mm on your Apple TV or Mac, then tap the TV button in the player on your iPhone and pick it. Any format works, with subtitles, and your iPhone becomes the remote. A video that lives on a NAS is opened by the TV from the same server, so add that server on the TV too.
Chromecast appears in the same list; 70mm converts what the TV can't play. AirPlay carries MP4 and MOV.
70mm Pro
70mm Pro is a one-time purchase of $14.99 that covers iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV and is shared with your family. It adds unlimited casting, as many network servers as you like, your place synced through iCloud, subtitle translation on the device, and a private folder behind Face ID.
Restoring a purchase: open Settings › 70mm Pro and tap Restore Purchase with the same Apple Account. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Privacy
70mm has no account and collects nothing. Videos, servers and progress stay on your devices; iCloud sync, when you turn it on, keeps your place in your own iCloud account. See the privacy policy.
Open source
70mm plays most formats with VLCKit under the LGPL. The licenses and how to rebuild 70mm with your own copy are on the open source page.
