8hrs Support

Updated September 17, 2026

Answers to common questions about 8hrs, the work hours tracker for iPhone. 8hrs is available now on the App Store. Can't find what you need? Email support@apphunt.app.

Choose how you get paid

When you first open 8hrs, it asks How do you get paid? Choose By the hour for shifts, breaks, overtime and pay periods, I bill clients for billable time, rates and timesheets, or Just tracking my time to keep money out of sight. You can change it anytime in Settings → Work → How you work.

Start, stop and switch timers

Type what you're working on and tap the green button. The timer keeps running when you leave the app. Starting another timer stops the current one at the same moment, so switching tasks never leaves a gap.

To start something you did before, tap it under Continue, or tap the play button next to any entry.

Breaks

When you're paid by the hour, the running timer has a Take a Break button with a cup. Tap it and your shift pauses while a break starts.

  • Back to work: tap the play button. The same shift starts again, with the same title, project and tags.
  • Done for the day: tap the stop button during a break to end the shift.
  • Fix a break: tap it in the list to change its start or end, or to delete it.

Breaks show on your timeline and in your lists, but every total, report, export and pay estimate leaves them out.

Overtime and pay periods

Open Settings → Work and set Pay period to every week, every 2 weeks, twice a month (the 1st to the 15th and the 16th to the end of the month) or every month. For every 2 weeks, also set when the current period started. Then choose an Overtime rule. Workweeks begin on the day set in Workweek starts on.

Over 40 hours a weekHours past 40 in a workweek, as federal law requiresNone
Over 8 hours a day or 40 a weekHours past 8 in a day or 40 in a workweek, as in Alaska and NevadaNone

The This Pay Period card on the Timer shows the hours you've worked so far, your overtime and your estimated pay. Tap it, or choose Pay Period in Reports, to see regular hours, overtime and double time with what each pays. Pay uses each project's hourly rate, or Hourly pay in Settings when a project doesn't have one.

Overtime and estimated pay need 8hrs Pro. Estimates are before taxes and deductions, so your paycheck will differ. Your employer's policy or your state's rules may also differ from the rule you choose.

Log hours in plain English

Quick entry reads projects, tags, times and days from what you type. Tap a highlighted word to keep it as plain text.

Fix time you forgot to track

  • Forgot to start: type “since 9:15” or “20m ago”, or tap Since on the running timer to move its start.
  • Forgot to stop: touch and hold the Stop button and choose how long ago you stopped.
  • Missed a stretch: open Timesheet, pick the day and tap an untracked gap.

Lock Screen, Dynamic Island and Control Center

The running timer appears on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island as soon as it starts. If it doesn't, turn on Live Activities in Settings → 8hrs.

To add the timer toggle to Control Center, open Control Center, tap +, choose Add a Control and search for 8hrs. You can also assign it to the Action button in Settings → Action Button → Controls.

Widgets

Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit → Add Widget and search for 8hrs. The small and medium widgets stop the running timer or continue a recent one. Lock Screen widgets show the timer and today's total.

Rates and billable time

Set an hourly rate on a client, a project, or as your default rate in Settings. A project's rate wins over its client's rate. When you bill clients, mark time as billable in quick entry with $, in the entry editor, or by making a project billable by default. When you're paid by the hour, every hour you work counts toward your pay.

Reports and export

Open Reports, choose a week or month (or a pay period when you're paid by the hour), then tap Export for a CSV of the entries. Settings → Export All Entries (CSV) saves your whole history. CSV export is always free.

8hrs Pro adds PDF timesheets, whole-year reports, a client filter, time by tag and rounding of billable time to 6, 15 or 30 minutes. Rounding applies to billable time in reports and exports; your tracked time itself never changes.

Import from Toggl, Clockify or Harvest

Import is free. Export a detailed report as a CSV file from the app you're leaving, then open Settings → Import from Toggl, Clockify or Harvest and choose the file. 8hrs shows what it will add before anything is imported.

FromHow to export
Toggl TrackOn the web, open Reports → Detailed, set the dates, then Export → CSV. CSV export needs a paid Toggl plan; “CSV (Legacy)” includes clients too.
ClockifyOpen Reports → Time → Detailed, set the dates, then Export → Save as CSV. On Clockify's free plan, export up to a year at a time.
HarvestOpen Reports → New report → Detailed time, choose the timeframe, then Export → CSV. If Harvest has only hours for a day, 8hrs lines up that day's entries from 9 AM.

Projects, clients, tags and hourly rates come along and are matched by name to the ones you already have. Entries already in 8hrs, with the same start, end and title, are skipped, so importing the same file twice adds nothing. If 8hrs doesn't recognize a file, export a detailed report as CSV and try again.

8hrs Pro

8hrs is free to download, with no limit on history. 8hrs Pro adds overtime and pay estimates, PDF timesheets, year reports, client filters, tag reports and rounding of billable time. Timers, timesheets, widgets, iCloud sync, import and CSV export stay free.

On a new iPhone or after reinstalling 8hrs, tap Restore Purchases in Settings or Restore at the bottom of the 8hrs Pro screen. Use the Apple Account you bought Pro with.

Apple manages subscriptions. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions → 8hrs, and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least a day before your subscription renews or your free trial ends to avoid being charged. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription. For a refund, contact Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Reminders

Turn on Remind me to start in Settings for a nudge on weekday mornings; it's skipped on days you've already tracked time. The long-running timer reminder asks if you're still working and lets you stop the timer from the notification.
