Curat Support

Answers to common questions about Curat, the photo and storage cleaner for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Can't find what you need? Email support@apphunt.app.

Getting started

On first launch Curat asks for access to your photos. Choose Allow Full Access so it can check the whole library; with limited access it only sees the photos you picked. The first scan takes from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the size of your library; later scans only look at new photos. Keep Curat open while it scans.

What Curat finds

Similar photos (Premium): series of near-identical shots. The best shot of each series stays.

Duplicates (Premium): exact copies, even re-saved from a chat later. The copy you keep stays in every album.

Blurry photos (Premium): out-of-focus, shaky or very dark shots.

Receipts & documents (Premium): photos of receipts, notes and whiteboards.

Screenshots (free): every screenshot, newest first.

Screen recordings (free): screen recordings, usually large.

Large videos (free to delete, Premium to compress): videos above the size you set in Settings, 100 MB by default.

Live Photos (Premium): Live Photos with the space their motion part takes.

Tap a category to review it. Tap a photo to select or deselect it, touch and hold to preview it. Favorites are never pre-selected (you can change this in Settings).

Deleting and undo

iOS asks you to confirm every deletion. Deleted photos and videos stay in the Recently Deleted album of the Photos app (under Utilities) for 30 days, where you can recover them. The space comes back when that album is emptied: automatically after 30 days, or right away if you empty it yourself. Curat can't delete anything without your confirmation.

Swipe mode

Open the Swipe tab and pick a month or On This Day. Swipe left (or tap ✕) to put a photo in the bin, swipe right (or tap ✓) to keep it, and use ↺ to undo. The ♡ button marks a photo as a favorite. On iPad and Mac the left and right arrow keys work too.

Nothing is deleted until you open the bin and tap Delete. In the bin, tap a photo to put it back, or tap Put everything back. Swipe mode is free with no limits.

Compressing videos

The Compress tab lists your videos by size with the expected size after compression. Balanced makes a 1080p HEVC copy, Smaller a 720p copy. The copy keeps the original date, place and favorite mark. If a copy wouldn't be at least 10% smaller, Curat keeps the original and tells you. Videos stored only in iCloud are downloaded first, which needs a connection.

With Delete originals after compressing on (the default), each original goes to Recently Deleted once its smaller copy is saved. Turn it off to keep the originals in your library.

Live Photos

In Live Photos, select the shots that don't need motion and tap Convert to still photos. Curat saves the still picture with the same date and place and moves the Live Photo to Recently Deleted.

Contacts

The Contacts tab finds cards that share a name, a phone number or an email address, and cards without any number or email. Merge keeps the most complete card and adds the numbers, emails, addresses and other details of the others.

Before any change Curat saves a vCard backup; find it in Settings → Contacts backups or in the Files app under On My iPhone → Curat → Contacts Backups. Open the file on your iPhone to add the cards back.

Siri and widgets

Siri: say “Find clutter with Curat”, “Swipe photos in Curat”, “Clean screenshots with Curat” or “How much space is free in Curat”.

Widgets: touch and hold the Home Screen or Lock Screen, add the Curat widget, and tap it to start a cleanup.

Curat Premium

Curat is free to download. The scan, screenshots, screen recordings, the large-video list and Swipe mode are free with no limits. Curat Premium adds Smart Cleanup for similar, duplicate and blurry photos, receipts & documents, the video compressor, Live Photos to stills and contact merging.

Weekly: $4.99 a week, starting with a 3-day free trial.

Monthly: $9.99 a month.

Yearly: $29.99 a year, starting with a 3-day free trial.

Lifetime: $39.99 once, with no subscription.

Prices are in US dollars. The App Store shows the price in your currency before you buy.

Restore a purchase

On a new device or after reinstalling Curat, tap Restore purchases in Settings or on the Premium screen, using the Apple Account you bought Premium with.

Cancel a subscription

Apple manages subscriptions. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions → Curat, and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least a day before your subscription renews or your free trial ends to avoid being charged. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription. For a refund, contact Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Troubleshooting

A category stays empty: wait until the scan finishes; similar photos, duplicates and blurry photos appear when their check is done.

Photos stored only in iCloud: Curat checks the preview kept on your device; if there is none, the photo is skipped until it is downloaded.

Wrong series: series are grouped at Balanced by default. Choose Strict (only near-identical shots) or Loose (also shots of the same scene) under Settings → Similar photos.

Start fresh: Settings → Rescan the whole library forgets what Curat learned and checks everything again.
