Questions about Acord
How accurate is the tuner?
Acord measures the pitch with the YIN method on the raw microphone signal, to a fraction of a cent on a clean tone, and smooths the reading so the needle stays calm. Real strings are slightly stiff, so their overtones run a little sharp; any tuner that listens to the whole sound reads them within a cent or so.
Can it tune a 5-string bass?
Yes, down to the low B at 31 Hz. Phone microphones pick up little of such a low fundamental, so Acord reads the string from its overtones.
Which instruments does it support?
32, with 67 tunings: guitar (6, 7 and 12 strings), bass, ukulele, guitalele, violin, viola, cello, double bass, mandolin, banjo, Irish bouzouki, bouzouki, bağlama, oud, balalaika, domra, dombra, cavaquinho, charango, cuatro, vihuela, guitarrón, bandurria, tres, erhu, pipa, shamisen, sanshin and more. Chromatic mode tunes anything else, including your voice.
Does the metronome keep playing with the screen locked?
Yes. It also mixes with music from other apps, so you can play along.
Does Acord record me?
No. The tuner listens only while it's open, analyses the sound in memory to find the note, and never records, stores or sends anything. There's no account and no tracking.
Is Acord free?
Yes. The chromatic tuner, standard guitar, bass, ukulele and violin tuning, the metronome and the pitch pipe are free with no limits. Acord Premium adds every other instrument and tuning, strobe, any reference pitch and more.
