Hidden camera and tracker detector for iPhone

Check for hidden cameras. And trackers.

Sonda lists the devices on the room's Wi-Fi and flags the ones that look like cameras, listens for Bluetooth trackers such as Tile, SmartTag and Chipolo, and walks you through the 14 spots where cameras are actually found, with the torch, infrared and a magnet check. A hot-and-cold radar leads you to lost earbuds and tags, too. No account, no ads, and nothing leaves your iPhone.

Cameras on the network, trackers in the air

Join the room's Wi-Fi and tap Check this room. In about half a minute Sonda lists the devices on the network — router, TV, speaker, printer, smart-home gadgets — and flags the camera-like ones with a plain reason: it streams video, it announces a video service, or its name or web page says so. Mark your own devices as yours once and they're never flagged again.

Bluetooth scan

Trackers that shouldn't be near you

Sonda listens for Tile, Samsung SmartTag, Chipolo and other Bluetooth trackers, and flags one that stays near you for more than five minutes, with what to do next. Everything else in range is listed with its signal and a distance estimate, and you can mark your own earbuds and tags as yours. AirTags are left to iOS's own alerts; Sonda shows you how to check one in Find My.

Lens finder

A lens throws back a dot

Darken the room and sweep slowly with the torch and the red filter. A camera lens returns a small, sharp point of light that stays put as you move; a screw or a shiny sticker gives a smear that changes with the angle. With Sonda Premium, Auto detect circles reflections that last across several frames, so you can watch the room instead of the screen.

Report · Premium

Something to show the host

Found something? Share a plain-text summary of the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scans and your checklist with the host, the platform's support or the police. It lists what the phone could see, and says plainly that no app can guarantee a room is free of cameras.

Then look around

A scan can't see a camera that's wired, switched off or on another network. These tools help you look for one yourself.

Infrared check

Night vision glows

Night-vision cameras light the room with infrared you can't see. The front camera usually shows it as a faint purple-white glow; test your phone on a TV remote first.

Magnet check

What's inside that clock?

A hidden device's power supply or magnet mount pushes the needle when the phone is a few centimetres away. Ordinary electronics do too, so use it on objects you're unsure about.

Room checklist

The 14 spots that matter

Smoke detectors, clocks, chargers, outlets, mirrors, picture frames, plants, bathroom hooks and more, each with what to look for. Tick them off as you go.

Finder radar

Warmer, colder, there

With Sonda Premium, pick any device in the Bluetooth list and walk: the ring grows, the pulses speed up and the screen says warmer or colder. For a tracker in your bag, or earbuds you've lost.

What a phone can find, and what it can't

No app can promise a room is clean. Sonda tells you what the phone saw, why it flagged it, and where to look next.

Wi-Fi scan

Only the network you're on

Camera-like devices on the same Wi-Fi show up. A camera that's switched off, wired without Wi-Fi, on mobile data or on the host's separate network doesn't. On guest networks that keep devices apart, Sonda sees only your phone, and says so.

Bluetooth

AirTags are left to iOS

iOS hides Apple's own Bluetooth signals from every third-party app, so AirTags and other Find My accessories show up only as unnamed devices. iOS alerts you itself when an unknown AirTag travels with you, and Find My › Items › Identify Found Item checks one you've found.

Your own eyes

The checks a scan can't replace

Cameras need a view of the room and usually power. The lens finder, the infrared check and the 14-spot checklist help you look where no scan can, which is why they're part of every check.

Every check is free. Premium adds the radar and the report.

Sonda is free to download, with no ads and no account. Sonda Premium is $4.99 a week or $29.99 a year with a 3-day free trial, $9.99 a month, or $39.99 once for life. Prices are in US dollars.

Questions about Sonda

Can an app really find hidden cameras?

Some of them. A camera on the same Wi-Fi shows up in the Wi-Fi scan when it streams video, announces a video service or names itself, and the lens finder helps you spot the glint of a lens. No app can guarantee a room is free of cameras: one that's switched off, wired without Wi-Fi or on another network won't appear in a scan, which is why the lens finder and the room checklist are part of every check.

Does Sonda detect AirTags?

No — iOS doesn't share Apple's own Bluetooth signals (AirTags, Find My accessories) with apps, so no third-party iPhone app can list them. iOS itself alerts you when an unknown AirTag travels with you, and in the Find My app, Items › Identify Found Item shows a found AirTag's serial number and can make it play a sound. Sonda flags Tile, Samsung SmartTag, Chipolo and other Bluetooth trackers.

What should I do if I find a camera?

If it's watching a private space, don't dismantle it: cover it, photograph it, and contact the platform or the police. In a rental or hotel, the big booking platforms don't allow cameras inside the room, so ask the host and report it through the platform. The Sonda Premium report gives you a summary of the check to share.

What if a tracker is following me?

Don't go home with it: get somewhere public, then use Find it (Sonda Premium) to locate it. Tile's app has a “Scan and Secure” feature and Samsung's SmartThings app an “Unknown tag search”. To stop any tracker, remove its battery.

Can Sonda find my lost earbuds?

If they're powered and within Bluetooth range, yes: pick them in the Bluetooth list and tap Find it (Sonda Premium). Walk slowly — the ring grows, the pulses speed up and the screen says warmer or colder until you're right there. It works with earbuds, tags, speakers, watches and anything else that shows up in the list.

Does anything leave my phone?

No. Sonda has no servers, no account, no ads and no tracking. It only listens: it never logs in to or changes the devices it lists, and the radios go quiet when you leave the app.

Why does iOS ask about the local network?

The Wi-Fi scan needs to talk to other devices on the network, and iOS asks once. Without it Sonda can list only your own iPhone.

Is Sonda free?

Yes. The Wi-Fi scan, the Bluetooth scan with tracker alerts, the lens finder, the infrared and magnet checks and the room checklist are free with no limits. Sonda Premium adds the Finder radar, automatic lens detection and the shareable report.
