Handful Support

Answers to common questions about Handful for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Can't find yours? Email support@apphunt.app with your device and iOS or macOS version, and a person will reply.

Type a to-do the way you'd say it

Tap + and type. Handful picks out the details and shows each one as a chip; tap × on a chip to keep those words as text.

  • Days: tomorrow, Friday, next week, Oct 3
  • Times: at 6pm (adds a reminder)
  • Repeats: every Monday, every other week, every month on the 1st
  • Deadlines: by Friday
  • Estimates: ~20m, ~2h
  • Tags and lists: #family, @Groceries (a new list name creates a project)

Plan the day and wrap it up

Open Today and tap the sun in the top corner. Plan Today settles yesterday's leftovers and pulls in what's due; Wrap Up moves what's left to tomorrow, the weekend or Someday. Handful can remind you to do both each day; set the times, or turn them off, in Settings.

What does “~30m” mean?

It's an estimate. Today adds up estimates and compares them with the time left before your day ends, which you can set in Settings. With Handful Plus, your calendar events count too.

My to-dos don't show up on another device

Handful syncs through iCloud. Make sure every device is signed in to the same Apple Account, iCloud Drive is on, and Handful is allowed to use iCloud in Settings. Changes usually arrive within a few seconds when devices are online.

How do I share a project?

Open the project, tap the ••• menu, then Share Project, and choose how to send the invitation. People you invite need Handful and an Apple Account. Sharing is part of Handful Plus.

Reminders don't ring

Check that notifications are allowed for Handful in Settings, and that a Focus isn't silencing them. For things you can't miss, turn on Ring as alarm in the to-do's details.

Bring your to-dos from Things, Reminders or Todoist

In Settings, under Your Data, choose Import. Handful keeps projects, headings, checklists, tags, dates and repeats, and nothing changes in the other app.

  • Things 3: on a Mac, open Handful and choose File › Import, then Things 3. Everything comes over at once and syncs to your iPhone. With only an iPhone, select to-dos in Things, copy them and paste them into Import › Text.
  • Apple Reminders: pick the lists to bring over. Each list becomes a project.
  • Todoist: download a backup from Todoist Settings › Backups and unzip it, or export a project as a CSV template, then choose the CSV files.
  • TickTick: create a backup in TickTick Settings › Account › Backup, then choose the CSV file.
  • Anything else: paste a list or choose a text, Markdown or TaskPaper file.

Completed to-dos are left out unless you turn on Include completed to-dos. Importing the same file again skips what's already in Handful.

Handful Plus

Plus adds shared projects, voice brain dump, calendar planning, attachments and Markdown, alarms and location reminders, themes and Apple Watch. It's $29.99 a year with a 14-day free trial, or $69.99 once, and works with Family Sharing. Manage or cancel a subscription in iOS Settings, under your name, Subscriptions. Restore a purchase in Handful Settings.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. In Settings, under Your Data, export everything as a readable Markdown file and a complete JSON file. The JSON file can be imported back into Handful.
